about

I’d been playing with a guitar progression and melody line for a while with no words, until Tobin presented me with a poem he’s been writing - World’s On a Wire. It seemed to fit like a glove, and swiftly turned into a complete song.
It’s about the tyranny of our hyper-connected world, the internet – the world on a wire. The words came from the fatigue of being in that environment and the yearning for something more real, more free – like the bird sitting outside on our back porch.

lyrics

World’s On A Wire - Jen Lush / words by Tobin Lush

little bird, do you have the key?
what’s it like up above
up above here?
when the light falls through the wind
I can’t see what you’ve got for me

well the world’s on a wire so life’s not what it used to be

are you alone with the melody?
heaven and hell are not what they seem
like the storm in my mouth
calls to the valley from the balcony

well the world’s on a wire so life’s not what it used to be

little bird, do you have the key?
what’s it like up above
up above here?
but I’ve seen you above the town
dull the noise between the sound

well the world’s on a wire so life’s not what it used to be
