This is the fourth attempt at writing this song. About a friend who experienced PTSD. The recovery, the relationships and landscapes that have the capacity to build us back again. The grey violence of war on our bodies. The green hill that rises out of the valley.

loosened
i’m losing my hold
under all of my clothes
unraveling slowly playing my roles
soldiering on and sewing up holes

weightless
with the weight of the mourning

anchor me down before i lift off

wakeful
in the wake of the warring
i’m a thousand years old
and i’m wondering what the hell i’ve been sold
in the aftershocks of all that i’ve known

wide awake in slumber high up on the hill
tethered here with you
i can see the greenest view

embers
