During a hard time, when anxiety was a white sheet of fear and plummeting was a daily thing, one of the strategies that helped me was to go ‘mining for joy.’ I would think about something that made me genuinely freaking happy. Three things came to mind: the afternoon sun that sends long shadows across the ground spliced by impossibly golden light; the hilarious and ridiculous things the kids would say sometimes, pure gold; and the connectivity of playing live music to a room full of people, when something magic happens and I almost see a gold thread winding its way around the room, a collective exchange like a shared heart.

the dawn pulls back it’s cover
the ground beneath succumbs to vital signs
