about

Fireground is an indie pop-rock track written in response to the bushfires that devastated so many in recent years and the political narrative around climate change that takes advantage of the moment using fear, greed and power to manipulate others to their advantage. Those directly affected by the realities, are left to face the trauma and disadvantage of disaster. This is the third single from Jen Lush’s album ‘Let Loose The Beating Birds’ with its accompanying video shot by Tobin Lush, featuring dancer Amelia Watson in the burnt out bushland of Scott Creek, SA.

lyrics

Fire Ground - Jen Lush / words by Tobin Lush

can i shoot my gun
to lose my mind
across the lake
to the fire ground

cut across the mountains
blowin through the haze
in a hall of mirrors
shifting the gaze

what will you remember?
what will you forget?

what will you remember?
what will you forget?
black skies in the morning
red light, white night

washed up
in a post-truth era
in an untethered hell
of our own making

moving across the bones
to kindle the names
glowing before your eyes
body a hurricane

searched among the words
through a million years
on the grounds below
a reckoning for all of us
