This folk-rock wildling began as a poem by Tobin Lush spoken into a phone during morning peak hour, stuck fast in idiot traffic, inspired by a text by our favourite kind of anti-capitalist Naomi Klein. The words present ‘I’ as the natural world and ‘you’ as the black hammer. The black hammer being a metaphor for blind environmental politics motivated by greed, power and fear. These words wound their way into this song by Lush, and made larger and more psychedelic by her band (James Brown, Sam Cagney, Mark Seddon and Paul Angas) produced, engineered and mixed by James Brown at Wizard Tone Studios.
Black Hammer is the first single from this album.
